Briers is a family firm started by a husband and wife team - Jackie and Nigel Eades. Jackie is very much the face of Briers whilst Nigel keeps everything working behind the scenes.

Jackie started it all with garden gloves... Because what she didn’t see were attractive designs aimed at women. In her own words all the gloves were rather “blokeish” whilst in the garden market the majority of the buyers are women. Where were the women’s gloves?  Where indeed...

Her retail background told her this was an opportunity and also that she needed to establish her point of difference... Fast forward to today and you have gorgeous collections sold across the country - all born out of her vision over 15 years ago. We hope you love them as much as we do!

1999 launched with only 4 pairs of gloves!

2000 10 pairs of gloves and a multi-tool

Popular gloves still going strong today are the Lined Hide, the Gauntlet, PVC Coated, Cotton Grip and Rigger. A combination of quality and practicality that would ultimately lead to beauty as well.

2001 24 gloves, 2 multi-tools and a kneeler

This fast growth swiftly led onto more gardening related products and fast forward to….

2007 65 gloves, the start of Signature Collections with the Ditzy, Tapestry and Argyle ranges, plus wellington boots and clogs as well as garden wear for kids.

Notable gloves from this year included the Lady, now better known as one of Briers best-selling gloves – the much loved and trusted Lady Gardener. Still immensely popular and still utterly gorgeous.

Plus a stalwart of the current range – the Traditional – known back then as the Yellow Finger (I can’t think why we changed the name…).

Years of experience and a drive to transform and inspire has given the Briers team huge insights into the gardening market. It was this desire not to accept the status quo that led Jackie to look at what was happening in Europe. In 2014 Jackie decided Briers needed to broaden its horizons even more, so the company took the decision to became the only UK members of EFSA (the European floral and lifestyle suppliers association).  

This is a forward looking organisation whose members not only share knowledge and insight from their own specialities but also appreciate the power of looking ahead. EFSA commissions trend information for its members. In fact, EFSA looks at trends up to 18 months ahead. This insight has helped the Briers team to be even more confident with their creativity and producing patterns and designs that people really appreciate, and ultimately want to have as their own.

Where is Briers now in 2016?

Leading the market with over 100 gloves, covering everything from workhorse rigger gloves, to the gorgeous profession’elles right through to the luxury of our new golden leather range. Simply the go-to company for garden gloves!

Working on partnerships to deliver stunning branded collections: from the iconic and famous William Morris; the traditional and patriotic Historic Royal Palaces; to the much loved and trusted The Gruffalo.

Offering wellington boots and clogs in a fully comprehensive range with stylish and comfy garden clogs, garden shoes, plus adult and children’s wellington boots. Not forgetting boot socks and boot warmers. New for 2016 we've revisited our rubber boots completely and now have fabulous full-length, half-length (mid-calf) and Chelsea designs.

Great kids ranges for pocket-money priced products for all the fun of outdoors - with Briers Kids, as well as The Gruffalo range for children’s gardening items that seem to just get ever more popular!

Our stunning Signature Collections are refreshed each year to provide ranges of our best-selling product that match the latest colours and pattern trends from the high street - all artfully designed for the gardening and gifting market. 

Clocks, Weather Stations and Thermometers – a timeless collection of beautiful designs and all wrapped up in beautiful packaging for the perfect finish - bringing a fresh Briers’ take on things for 2016.

Plus we’ve got those handy accessories: hand tools, kneelers and kneepads as well as umbrellas to keep you dry on those rainy days (we’ve plenty of those in the British Isles). Plus, there’s still more…

Today with a great team that includes many ex-retailers, Briers designs and manufactures beautiful and gorgeous products which are sold throughout the country and abroad. In fact, from the original range of four gloves, some are still in the current range today. All testament to Jackie's vision to make better gloves that started over 15 years ago and has blossomed into so much more today.
